The Leaders

Until now, during this pandemic of Covid-19, government policy keeps us staying at home to stop the spread of the disease. These policies prevent people from having offline activities, so people rely on online service to keep doing their activities. This situation could increase stress level if we cannot lead our self, so the question is can you lead yourself?

The use of the game as a media of entertainment is not something that uncommon. But, up until now the use of the game as a tool for education (Game-based learning/Gamification) is keeps increasing significantly during this period of a pandemic where education forced to transform into online learning to make sure the education process keep ongoing. This change of habit causes an increase in online service usage, especially in the game industry. Based on data, the use of game had increased up to 75% since the first week of quarantine.

As a lecture at a higher education institution and as a product manager of one startup that focused on developing interactive tools (one of the product is game), Me and my team for the last nine months trying to develop a game called “the leaders”

“The Leaders” is a self-leadership game that has the objective of developing and assessing an individual’s self-leadership. This game tries to minimise the risk of bias of assessment tools and enhance development by using interactive tools (Which is game) to increase user engagement. This game’s idea comes from Malmir and Azzizzadeh (2013) research titled “EVALUATING AND PROVIDING SOLUTIONS FOR SELF-LEADERSHIP.”

The exciting point stated in the research is how the current leadership style of command and control did not match the current situation where innovation and creativity become the organisation’s focus. The self-leadership style would be more effective with the current situation. I try to see it from another perspective, where self-leadership is the basis of an individual’s leadership.

Individuals who could control and lead themselves will have a higher success rate to become leaders and leads others. During this pandemic, the case of stress had increased (based on our well-known national news paper). Indeed, this case is increasing because of the sudden change of habit that one individual does not yet adapt to this situation. Suppose the individual has some degree of self-leadership where they could control and lead themselves. In that case, we could prevent similar cases from happening again in the future regardless of the problem that arose at that time.
